The molecule ‘water’ is not just any substance, but the main component of our human body, making up over 70%.
The diverse and sophisticated chemical and technical processes that we humans have developed to turn ‘wastewater’ back into drinking and usable water are of utmost importance for our health, quality of life, and basic supply.
Countless people and companies are active in the wastewater sector. However, many of us citizens in this country who have little or no contact with the wastewater industry are hardly aware of many daily processes in sewage treatment plants, sewers, and pressure pipes, as we learned from many conversations.
Perhaps even more than with the well-known phrase ‘electricity comes from the socket,’ we often take it for granted that clean water flows from the water pipe. I personally notice the high standard of wastewater treatment and reprocessing in Germany especially when I’m on vacation in countries where it’s advised to boil water even for brushing teeth. Or when in some countries, wastewater is simply discharged into the sea or rivers, which was also partially the case here not too long ago… It’s terrible when people have to collect water daily in canisters from a central point, not to mention when even this is not possible.
With our pneumatic wastewater pumping systems, which are useful in certain applications, we try to make a modest contribution to solving the tasks of wastewater disposal. Because with ‘wastewater transport using compressed air,’ a pre-clarification of the wastewater already takes place, and deterioration of the wastewater quality is prevented while it’s not yet at the treatment plant.
The importance of water and wastewater treatment is often publicly acknowledged to this day, especially in southern federal states, when, for example, a new wastewater facility is put into operation. It’s not uncommon for this to happen in a ceremonial act by official, sometimes even ecclesiastical, sides, with interesting speeches comprehensively addressing the topic, combined with historical backgrounds and religious aspects of water.
So it’s not just important what happens above the ground, but also what happens beneath the surface.
